Dear Students,
Below is the Moodle site for the Entrepreneurship unit.
There are two main sections:

        - Common area --> you will find announcements and a forum
Announcements:
Announcements will be posted in this section from now on.
So it is important that you check this section regularly in order to remain up to date with any instructions, announcements etc.  We will limit the use of emails as much as possible from now on for this unit, and use the Moodle platform instead.
Forum:
You may ask questions related to the Entrepreneurship Unit and Assignment in the forum.
Uploading of assignments:
Instructions on where and how to upload Task 2a and Task 2b are available in the 'Announcements' area.
A reminder that:
    - Task 2a should be uploaded by 23:55 on Friday 22nd November 2019
    - Task 2b (presentation) should be uploaded by 13:00 on Sunday 24th November 2019
We strongly suggest that you don't leave up to the last minute to upload assignment tasks.
Initial Idea Presentation (Task 2b):
On Monday 25th November 2019, you will be presenting your idea to a panel.  Attached are the timings allocated for each group.  Being on time for these presentations is of utmost importance.  Guidelines for the Presentation can be found in the Announcements section on Moodle.

Dear Students,
Please find attached the groups list with updates based on feedback received.
It is important that you re-check the excel file to:
  • confirm that your name is listed in one group
  • check that the institute next to your name is listed correctly
  • confirm your group number
  • check who your group members are, as there were changes in some groups, and communicate with any members who you did not yet communicate with
  • identify the mentor assigned to your group
In case you find some mistake in the excel file, or your name is missing, or maybe your request for adjustment in the previous version was not answered/corrected, please notify your lecturer by Wednesday 13th November 2019.
You can now start communicating with your mentor.  We suggest that you don't leave this till the last few days before a submission is due.
Good luck.

Dear Directors,

Kindly send the email below to all L6 Entrepreneurship students. Unfortunately, it seems that some of this correspondence is not reaching students. We are also uploading this information on Moodle but please make sure that from your end you still send.

Thanks and Regards,

Kenny

Dear students,

As you start concluding your Entrepreneurship project, we felt we should provide the below guidelines for the Sales Pitch you will be delivering on Friday 3rd or Monday 6th May (refer to previous communication for exact date of your group) together with submission of assessment tasks.

Presentations:

You will be allowed a total of 12 minutes to deliver your Sales Pitch. You are encouraged to include the below sections in your presentation. However, please feel free to amend this structure accordingly.

  1. Team Formation (1 slide)
  2. Product / Service (2 - 3 slides)
  3. Market Analysis (1 slide)
  4. Marketing Plan - Place, Promotion, Price, Branding, USP (2 slides)
  5. Capital Required (1 slide)
  6. Prototype (1 slide)
  7. Finance Section – first one to three years (1 slide)

Each member of the team is expected to contribute to the delivery of the presentation. The prototype of product / service offered (Task 10) is to also be demonstrated during the Sales Pitch.

May we remind you that presentations are to be delivered in English. Following your Sales Pitch you will be asked questions by members of the board. Remember to dress appropriately for this event.

Handing in of Assessment Tasks:

  1. Power point presentation is to be uploaded on Moodle by Thursday 2nd May at 12:00. Please follow instructions on Moodle.
  2. One printed copy of the presentation is to be presented to the chairperson of the board before starting the sales pitch.
  3. One printed copy of group assignment (Tasks 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9) is to be handed to a member of staff in the foyer of the MCAST Students’ House 2nd Floor before you deliver your sales pitch.
  4. Individual reflections (Task 1 – c, d, e) and Logbook are to be uploaded on Moodle (as was done in January 2019). Please make sure that you upload in your business mentor’s section.

Dear Directors,

Can you please send the below email to all students taking Entrepreneurship at Level 6?

On another note, please feel free to attend for any of these presentations. I am sure the students would appreciate seeing you there.

Regards,

Kenny

Dear students,

Kindly note that the final presentations for your Entrepreneurship group projects will be held on Friday 3rd and Monday 6th May 2019 at the MCAST Students’ House, Paola (2ndFloor). Please find your group and time slot in the attached excel sheet. You will have  12 minutes for your sales pitch and 8 minutes for questions from panel members.

In order to avoid issues with power-points not working or laptop compatibility, you need to upload your finalised versions of your presentations by Thursday 2nd May 12:00 on Moodle by accessing this linkhttps://moodle.mcast.edu.mt/course/view.php?id=3595

It is important that you upload the presentation in the appropriate group slot (there are 4 in total).

You also need to label your presentation using the Group number for example: Group 1, Group 2 ... etc ...

On the day of your presentation you are expected to be on time and dress appropriately for this event.

Best of luck for your studies!

Moodle - Unicheck entry system -

by Duncan Vella - Friday, 1 February 2019, 6:30 PM

Dear  students,
We would like to inform you that Unicheck only allows you to "submit" our assignments once. Given the fact that there were some students who had submitted their assignment in the wrong place or for some reason needed to change their entry, we would like to inform you that you can use the "drafts" section as shown below that will allow you to make three pre-checks that will also generate a plagiarism percentage without a submission taking place. It is highly important that you do this prior, to your final submission as that cannot be changed. The screenshot below highlight this further.

'A Word of Encouragement'
by Duncan Vella - Thursday 31 January 2019, 1:46 PM

We
would like to make a general note of encouragement and appreciation to all those of you who delivered their presentation On Monday 28th January. We were indeed impressed by your efforts. This shows that you are giving the unit the adequate importance and developing positive group dynamics for your projects. Representatives from the Malta Employers Association were invited for the presentations who commented positively on the students’ potential and ideas presented on the day.

Dear colleagues,

Further to your suggestions to distribute the correction of business plans more evenly we have checked the amount of hours you deliver in Entrepreneurship and worked the number of groups pro rata. In view of this kindly note the groups that you will be correcting.

Andrew Triganza Scott                  1 - 17

Ivan Briffa                                       18 - 27

Mario Zammit                                28 - 52

Robert Cassar                                 53 - 63

Omar Grech                                    64 - 73

David Pace                                      74 – 80

May I remind you that this year the reflective parts are being assessed by business mentors.

Let me know if you have any difficulties with this.

Regards,
Kenny

Dear Lecturers / Mentors,

Following some correspondence on the upcoming deliverables for the L6 Entrepreneurship assignment I felt the need to send this email to clarify matters as I have misguided some of you. Mostly this is related to Task 3, which states:

Task Three (covering grading criteria K&U 1)

Once you have set up your team start working on exploring different sources of entrepreneurial ideas.

Explain the process you went through in exploring potential ideas as well as the process you used to choose / eliminate ideas.

Deliverable:

Submit as a GROUP to your lecturer on Friday 25th January 2019

Students have been asking if they are to submit this to their mentor or their lecturer. Please inform them in your lectures or meetings that they need to present the hard copy of Task 3 (as a group) to the board who will be reviewing their work on Monday 28th January. From our end we are finalising the list of lecturers who will be correcting students’ group work since as you are aware the students you lecture form part of groups from several Institutes. During a meeting we held earlier this year some of you informed us that last year the corrections were not distributed evenly and we are trying to rectify this. Later on this week we should be in a position to send you the list.

Hence to conclude, by the 28th January or on the day the deliverables for students are as follows:

  • Hard copy of 1st submission of reflective journal (original deadline date on Friday 25th January): hand in hard copies to the board just after the presentation on Monday 28thJanuary;
  • Soft copy of 1st submission of reflective journal (original deadline date on Friday 25th January): upload on https://moodle.mcast.edu.mt by Monday 28th January (select the Entrepreneurship tab, select the name of the business mentor (not the lecturer), select the group number, and upload pdf version);
  • Hard copy  of Task 3 (original deadline date on Friday 25th January): hand in hard copy to the board just after the presentation on Monday 28th January;. From our end we will then forward this to the lecturers assigned to correct the students’ work.

Unfortunately communication through the Directors is not always reaching students so I am kindly asking you to communicate with students yourselves. We are currently working on another means of communication to address this problem.

If anything is still not clear please let us know immediately. And once again apologies for the lack of clarity.

Regards,

Kenny

Kindly note that, as communicated earlier, although the App is the main and fastest means of scheduling meetings with the Mentors, students can also use other means of contacting mentors such as Email or Mobile phone especially if their availability on the App is not visible.  May I also remind you that the scheduling of meetings with the mentor/s shall be the sole responsibility of the Team.  Mentors shall not chase Teams to set up meetings.  Thus, teams are encouraged to set up meetings with the mentors as early as possible and not to leave the scheduling of meetings till the very end.  We are currently experiencing some challenges in finding available meeting rooms. In the coming days, I hope to have a schedule of available rooms throughout MCAST Campuses. In the meantime, your help in finding a meeting place is appreciated.
